![]() ![]() The twin storylines of Jimmy and Kim's Howard scam and Gus' rivalry with Lalo were the pillars of season 6's story, and they've been destroyed in consecutive episodes. Having trusted others to do the job and paying the price, it makes sense that Gus would want to make sure it was finished this time.īetter Call Saul season 6 killing off Lalo is a major shake-up, especially on the back of Howard's death. He's always been an opportunist, and this was a rare chance to take Lalo out with him alone and unsuspecting (perhaps because Lalo underestimates him, assuming he wouldn't do the dirty work himself). Gus is aware of how far Lalo will go, that he is unleashed and has to be stopped it's kill or be killed, so Gus takes decisive action. The same is true of Lalo, albeit on an even bigger scale: Lalo, as he reveals in this episode, wants Gus dead (and even looks to Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) to do it). Still, he is capable of killing if he believes it's necessary or he has little choice: Gus kills Victor (Jeremiah Bitsui) in Breaking Bad to send a message to Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), but also because Victor's actions had made him a risk to Gus' plans. Gus is the ultimate villain, but rarely has to get his hands dirty, instead letting the likes of Mike handle the job of killing people while he serves as the mastermind of criminal operations. Gus killing Lalo in Better Call Saul is both surprising and yet makes a lot of sense. It upends season 6, making the final installments all the more unpredictable. The Better Call Saul midseason 6 premiere changes all that: with Lalo and Gus together at the Superlab, the "Chicken Man" gets ahead of his rival, with Gus using the gun he'd planted there earlier in the season to shoot him dead. ![]() Gus had Mike and his team trying to keep tabs on him, and Lalo was seemingly a step ahead (at least).
